Hurricane Sandy and the devastation

by admin on November 3, 2012

Watching the news and to see the damage left behind from Hurricane Sandy is truly devastating. I grew up in New York and currently live in Florida, so hurricanes are very familiar to me as well as the New York lifestyle. Florida is built for hurricanes, prepared, ready, and familiar with how to survive. Unfortunately the city that never sleeps, New Jersey, Connecticut, New England, and all the surrounding areas were not prepared for the power of a superstorm. It is tragic to see families struggling from losing their entire homes and all their personal belongings that they treasure. Something can be replaced like a home, furniture, and household items. However the loss of shelter, family photos, personal documents, and other items that just can not possibly be replaced is heart breaking. They have to stay strong and rebuild and this too shall pass. Everyone needs to do there part to chip in whether its donating clothes, garbage bags, batteries, candles, diapers, formula, and anything that would bring comfort to someone in need right now and struggling from probably one of their most tragic life events.

New York is a strong community and a different breed of people and I have no doubt they will quickly recover and stand strong as a force to help everyone get back to life as it was just a couple weeks ago. When September 11th happened it was tragic but the people of NY came together and helped rebuild and get back to where they are today. Every hurricane season I wonder if we will face a tragic storm and luckily for the past few years we have managed to slip through the path of destruction. I am sure that will luck will pass at some point and we will shutter the house, and stock up on batteries, gas, food, and dust off our generators. Thats the benefit of being prepared, and being that New York is not equipped that way we need to take some extra steps to reach out a helping hand.

My thought and prayers go out to the families and I will do everything I can to do my part in their recovery. I love New York.
